The End of Our Alaska Adventure

We settled easily into our time at Palmer with incredible weather that stretched well into September. The Alaska State Fair was just down the road from us and it did not disappoint. They say everything is bigger in Texas but don’t forget that Alaska is two and a half times larger than Texas!

We also made time to get on a glacier, explore more of Anchorage, see some museums, visit historic sites and hike some exceptional trails.

We also saw more aurora, right from our doorstep. Nemo and Bubbles got a good cleaning at the local spa and had some drone/glamour shots taken down by the river.

Although the weather was still good for us, we knew that it would be getting cold through Canada. It took us a couple of days to get going but once we did, it was only a few overnight stops to take the Alcan to Canada. We caught an absolute abundance of fall colors on the way.

It takes us a few more days to reach Watson Lake, where we pause for an extra day. It was beginning to get cold, and the weather reports indicated snow on the way. We opt to take the Cassiar Highway back down towards Prince George. The civilization of town was a quite a shock for us. Having seen so few people for the last month, the hustle and bustle of the “city” was disconcerting.

After another round of provisioning in Prince George, it was another couple of nights on the road to get down near the border of Washington where we land at another Harvest Host for a few days, our last stop before returning to “America.”
